Back when Bill Cosby was doing stand-up, his great appeal was the universality of the comedic bits he performed. He didn't do "Black" comedy, he did comedy that reflected everybody. Who among us has not returned from the dentist mumbling unintelligibly due to a lip full of Novocaine?JT Harding's story is not simply a lesbian love story. It is a love story that should not be limited by a qualifying adjective. It is a tale love and passion, between two people who were lucky to find each other in the middle of a war, that delivers that same sense of universality. In this case, both people happen to be women but if you substitute one male name and inject a few bits of male "plumbing," you have an equally moving and engrossing hetero love story.
Lil taking Georgia to meet her parents had to be very scary for her. Their approval may have been too much to expect, but Lil needed at least some tacit acceptance from her parents (including her macho fighter pilot brother)for her new and tender relationship to continue. That would have put this conservative British farm family in the vanguard of liberal thinking in the England of the time. But it was war, after all. The Battle of Britain and the London Blitz close at hand. No one knew if he/she would be alive tomorrow. Harding conveyed that very believably.
Love, I've heard, begins between the ears; sex between the legs. Sometimes they occur concurrently, sometimes sequentially and sometimes one occurs completely without the other. The author has done a masterful job of communicating the love, that drives some very torrid, explicit but loving sex.
But in the end, I didn't remember whose fingers went where, or who caused who how many orgasms. I remember two people falling madly, passionately in love, risking careers, reputations and family, in the middle of a war, trying to catch a few fleeting moments of happiness together.

In 1940 women have been recruited to fill in some noncombatant military positions at listening stations located on the coasts of England. So meet Lillian and Georgia.
This book was short and sweet. 2 women who fell in love during world war 2, tell you there story. First time lesbian lovers. The story was written well and even though it's a short story the sex wasn't rushed.
This was a great little story. A feel good piece for a rainy afternoon. Haven't read her other stuff but will look it up since reading this.
I found this to be both a very hot story and a very romantic love story. A naive and tender story of two women searching for the right words, the right time, the right place during a time that would not be so accepting of their relationship. Then bringing us to the present . . . I wanted to read more about these beautiful people.
I've read this book three times now. And, yes, its very erotic in places. But beyond that, it's also very real, very touching. I wish it were longer. I wish all the pulp writers out there (lesbian and otherwise) had this kind of skill.
Two young women sign up for the English home defense effort during WW II and discover they have more shared interests than they ever imagined when paired as a team. Lillian is a shy Brit who's fascinated by her brash American co-worker Georgia, and she in turn is not afraid to teach her new friend some new...shall we say, skills that promise to alleviate the boredom of their new jobs at a Radar station in the south of England. Lillian proves to be an apt student as they enjoy some time off at her family's farm, and the two girls forge what could become a life-long relationship. The steamy scenes are tame compared to some authors's writings, but the romance is tender enough to counter that criticism. I still read it periodically when I need a visit back to a more-innocent time.
Usually I don't look for much plot or characterization when I read a lesbian sex book, but I must say that this is an exception. Thrown together in the Home Guard during WWII, the free-spirited American, Georgia and the shy , proper English girl, Lillian fall for each other as the German bombs fall around them. Given a weekend pass, they spend it at Lil's parents' house. And the adventurous Georgia awakens Lil's repressed lesbianism.
This is an emotional story of how 2 lovers find each other in the midst of the horrors of war. They also find time to take a bath together and explore each other's hot bodies. It's really a great book, and I would probably have rated it higher if my expectations had been higher. In any event, this is a writer to watch. Highly recommended.
